Worthy guitar upgrade
I purchased these to replace the tuners on my Epiphone Les Paul Special II. It is an inexpensive guitar and plays pretty good. The factory tuners were not the best though. I saw several reviews on these and decided to give them a shot. I did have to open the holes up for the tuner shanks to I believe 10mm. This was the hardest part in that you could really screw up your guitar it the drill grabs or wrecks the finish. Drilling may not be necessary on all guitars. The original tuners had 2 alignment holes and these only have one in a different radius. Again, what to do... People on YouTube filled the extra holes with pieces on toothpicks. I did the same and it turned out nice enough. I touched up the heads with some blue Sharpie. You may need to drill a hole for each alignment screw too. Just make sure to carefully align the tuner before drilling the alignment holes and don't drill through the front. Put a piece of tape around you drill as a depth gauge. Once installed the tuners work great and look great! They are a lot smoother than the cheap factory ones. when tuning. They seem to hold the guitar in tune better as well. It was a fun improvement and I enjoy modding inexpensive guitars and making them my own. I put the money were i find the value and aesthetics. If you have an old guitar kicking around or a new one that is tough to tune, give these tuners a try!

Amazing drop in upgrade for under$40
I have been playing for less than a year. I was extremely frustrated that my inexpensive Ibanez wouldn't stay in tune. Every day I would pick it up and and every string was flat. I would tune it and start to play. After 5 minutes, I would realize it was out of tune again. Every string would be sharp, so I would tune them back to exactly where they were when I started. I was thinking about buying a new guitar, but a friend suggested I upgrade the tuners. I didn't want to spend $70 -100 to upgrade a $200 guitar so I decided to try these based on the Amazon reviews.....Wow. what a difference in quality from the stock tuners! The spindle on the old one jiggle around when you shake them, but there is no play in the Gotoh tuners. NONE! Installation was a breeze. They dropped right in and screws lined up perfectly. Now my guitar stays in tune for days! It makes learning guitar much more enjoyable! I liked them so much I bought a second set for my wife's Fender! Worth every penny!

Very good product
These are excellent tuners. They are much more affordable than products at Stew Mac. I have still have Shaller tuners I installed on a guitar in 1976. They are so expensive now! I am just as happy with these tuners.

Perfect fit for Breedlove Organic Wildwood Pro
Perfect fit for my Breedlove Organic Wildwood Pro guitar. Dropped right in with no alterations. Much smoother and more accurate than the stock tuners.

An excellent upgrade...
Bought these a few months ago to upgrade my 1962 Levin LM 26 steel string Goliath guitar. It's a superb instrument that still had the rather poor quality original tuners - they go through 7mm holes and were slightly wobbly. After the upgrade the guitar has much more volume, sustain, and a richer tone. The tuners are well made, very smooth, and the posts are rock solid, which is important for transmitting the string vibrations efficiently. I was concerned about neatly enlarging the holes in the headstock to the 10mm diameter needed for the tuners. So I used a 9mm wood drill to widen the holes, drilling 2/3 deep from the front and then 2/3 deep from the back of the head stock to minimise splintering you can get from drilling straight through the hole. Then I used a 10mm wood drill to enlarge the hole, but only from the back of the headstock, just deep enough to fit the tuner. The nut that secures the tuner from the front fits more securely into the 9mm hole. They are beautifully smooth and so easy to turn so I had to tighten the screws in the heads a little, and the 16:1 ratio high enough for accurate tuning.

Quality Tuners
They were easy to install took old tuners out and were a perfect fit. All are consistent and smooth while tuning to key as you would expect of a quality tuner. I expect them to last a lifetime.

tuner upgrade
I decided to upgrade the tuners on my guitar. I've heard a lot of good things about Gotoh and have been impressed with how they look, feel and function. Would recommend.

GOTOH Machine Tuning Heads SG381
Delightfully surprised to find that these GOTOH SG381-01 chrome 3-per-side 07202CX Tuning Heads are a drop-in match for the original SEAGULL closed geared heads on my vintage SEAGULL S.M. (6) acoustic guitar. They required not even the slightest modification —holes in the headstock for tiny screw & shaft are sized & align perfectly. I even like the paddle is the larger size matching the original (I dislike the smaller paddle size I see on many modern acoustics). The tuner itself is a smooth action easily holding tuning. My photo shows the first one installed.
