## Description

This is a beautifully hand poured 1 oz. Indium Ingot. Indium is a chemical element with symbol In and atomic number 49. It is a post-transition metallic element that is rare in Earth's crust. The metal is very soft, malleable and easily fusible, with a melting point higher than sodium, but lower than lithium or tin. Chemically, indium is similar to gallium and thallium, and it is largely intermediate between the two in terms of its properties. It has no obvious role in biological processes and common compounds are not toxic. It is most notably used in low melting point metal alloys such as solders, soft metal high vacuum seals, and in the production of transparent conductive coatings of indium tin oxide (ITO) on glass. Great for metal collectors, element collectors, casting, alloying, or a great gift for a science lover!

Review: Oh well! - This is a one ounce bar of Indium. Its use is to mix with gallium and tin to create a liquid metal which can be put in various sized glass tubing to make thermometers and sphygmomanometers instead of highly toxic mercury. But then after further reading I found that gallium is corrosive so decided to just store this as an interesting specimen, since it is too soft to cast into jewelry. Oh well, not the indium’s fault.
Review: Da sheet - Great piece of indium

Great piece of indium

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Actual Indium

I heard that maybe some people were getting cadmium instead of indium about 10 years ago. Things have changed. Rotometals is a reliable supplier of Indium (and bismuth, for what it's worth!) Does all the things that Indium does, like being really soft and squishy for a metal, able to cut it with scissors. Alloys well - I was able to use this for mixing up some Galinstan. I did experience a slight amount of garlic-smelling white vapor upon heating it past the melting point in a crucible with a torch, which gave me a bit of a headache. I think this is likely to be a slight arsenic or antimony impurity. Was able to burn off all of this contaminant and afterward the metal has no smell whatsoever and looks a little bit shinier.
