MagicEzy 9 Second Chip Fix (Midnight) Marine Fiberglass Repair Filler - Boat Gelcoat Repair - Lifetime Durability

At first I thought that the product had gone solid in the tube. I poked a thin piece of metal down the opening to get it started. I found it difficult to squeeze along the crack from the tube and began squeezing a little from the tube onto my finger and smoothing it along while quickly following behind with a single edge razor blade. I bought the Matterhorn white as I have marble appearing tile. I wish I had bought pure white and the Matterhorn white and mixed them or alternated or just varied the color along the cracks. I have now ordered some pure white and will go back and see if I can get it to blend more. However, I am very pleased with the product. The crack really caught my eye and bothered me. Now I just see it because I know it is there. I wish I had taken a picture of the full length of the crack in the beginning, instead of just the portion on the floor in front of me, but I was already sitting on the floor and did not want to get up. The crack ran lengthwise along 2 and 1/2 of my 12x24 tiles. I’m pleased. I carefully removed a little of the excess product haze using acetone on a cotton swab, just a tiny bit because I did not want it to get on the product actually on the crack. I did not use the putty knife you see in the picture, but as I stated, a single edged razor blade.

Just so you know, I'm a DIY guy. I've renovated 4 homes, significantly over the years leaving only the more technical electrical and plumbing to the experts. I've dealt w/most paints, caulking, epoxies, glues etc. In other words, using this product does not require particular expertise. Also know, I'm pretty understanding. Stuff happens. Sometimes you get a lemon, etc. So...here's what happened. I needed to repair a chip and some scratches on the hull of my kayak. Did lots of research and decided I'd order a tube of this stuff as reviews on it were decent and there really wasn't a clear-cut winner product. So, I get the product, followed directions of kneading, shaking for 2 min. even though it seemed awfully thick and 'putty-like' to me in the tube. When I tried to squeeze product out it would not come out! Pushed some wire in 'nozzle'..some came out on the wire, thought, OK...good to go. Not so much. Nothing and know that I'm squeezing for all I'm worth so I'm thinking this is ridiculous. Go through the process of sending it back for another tube, thinking...this one's defective. Fine. Get the other one and this morning go thru that prep process making sure I've followed directions, open it up, re-clean my kayak hull and again trying to get product out of that tube was ridiculous. Got a small dab after literally squeezing for all I'm worth. Larger wire thru nozzle...same result. I cut the end of the tube...same result. So...this one's going back and no...am not getting this same product. So disappointed. Don't know if these are the same 'batch' and defective or not. Like I said, I understand stuff can happen but this??? No, this is not right. Time to do more research I guess. BTW...given my experience if I could give less than a '1' I would. Absolutely useless product. I guess the only good thing about is it says 90 day return full guarantee.

This was easy to use and I am so happy to no longer have a rusty hole in my fiberglass bathtub. The color is not a perfect match, but again, better than a hole. Also the finish didn't sand out as smoothly as I'd like. I used 200 grit wet sandpaper and it still looks like a patch. Overall I'd recommend it. I do wish there was a way to create a custom color to get a better match.

Update 10/18/23: I decided to reach out to the company using their website last week. Heard back very quickly and received a replacement 2 days later. It too had the same issue. They’re now sending me one direct from Australia (also offered refund, but I really want to fix the chip). We’ve traded videos of what I’m seeing and what it looks like on their end. Kelly has been great to work with and I have full confidence this will work when I get next tube. Will update this review again if needed. Product arrived dried out. Unable to get it out of the tube. I pushed a finish nail down the tube thinking I had to pierce a seal, but there isn't one. I saw chip fix attached to the end of the nail. Do not bother buying this, it's completely unusable. I'm trying their hairline fix to fill a chip now, since it came in a bundle and I'm 4 days past the return window...

I purchased two tubes of MagicEzy 9 Second Chip Fix—one tube of white and one tube of black--to fill gouges in the white deck and black hull of my boat. The product is an adequate filler, but the repair is obvious because the final finish is granular and flat, not smooth and glossy. According to the instructions, the user applies Chip Fix directly to a clean gouge or crack. Then the user uses the bottom of the tube to scrape over the repair area to remove excess Chip Fix. The name of the product implies that Chip Fix is quick. It's not. I had to apply the product to the gouges two to three times to achieve an adequate fill and the material must dry for several hours between applications. The bottom of the tube, intended for use as a scraper, was warped on both tubes. Consequently, using the bottom of the tube as a scraper wasn’t ideal. Chip Fix is not suitable to fill slight scrapes and nominal gauges because the material won’t adhere in a shallow damaged area and scrapes out and smears across the surface. The final finish is chalky with a flat finish, not smooth and shiny, so the repair is obvious on a glossy surface. Filling a gouge only for aesthetics results in a disappointing finish because the repair is just as obvious as the original blemish. In my opinion, Chip Fix is best for filling medium to deep gouges and cracks if leaving the damage unattended might worsen, and the final finish isn’t a consideration.

I hate returning items, but the high cost of this product and the complete failure forced my hand. The videos and reviews looked great, but I can warn you, unless I got a bad tube, think twice before buying this. Firstly, the product is WAY too runny. I was expecting something like a toothpaste or Bondo consistency, but this was liquidy. I was trying to repair a tiny 1/4" chip in a vertical edge of a fiberglass hood scoop and most of the product dripped out of the chip and down the sides of the edges. I had to do about 5 applications to build it up, even for something as tiny as a 1/4" divot chip, using hair dryer and following instructions exactly. Tried shaking the tube really well too, but that seemed to make no difference in the product's viscosity. It didn't work anything like I'd hoped, or like videos I reviewed. The worse problem occurred after I gave it a few days to cure and tried sanding down the excess I'd built up. I was disappointed to discover the product dries to a nearly hard rubber-like consistency, and cannot be sanded. As I tried sanding the repaired edges smooth, the product started to peel up, and when I gave the repair a little pull, it pulled right out of the chip hole as a little rubbery divot. Considering how expensive this niche product is, I think you'd get a lot better performance and results with Bondo, which is at least sandable and easier to work with.
